Thoughts on Derrick Rose at this point in his Career.
Accomplishments
If Derrick Rose retired today, he would be better than the vast majority of players that have ever played in the NBA. He's a 3 time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, a Most Valuable Player, and has made the playoffs multiple times all in his short tenure as an NBA player. However, he's only 25 years old. One could argue that he has yet to reach his physical prime yet and that could be scary. I don't want to see another Penny Hardaway, no one does. I really hope that list of accomplishments will grow and grow until he's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Injuries
Well, the year leading up to his major ACL injury was plagued by minor twists, sprains, and other injuries for Derrick Rose. It was extremely lucky to see him play in 10 consecutive games in the 2011-2012 season. Then the ACL injury happened, which is no joke; I think we all know that. I tore my ACL when I was a kid and had to sit in my living room all summer long with a huge ice pack on my knee and popped pain pills like crazy. The rehab is ridiculous as well and it's difficult to gain confidence back in your own two legs when one buckles like that. Then a totally different, less severe, injury happened where he tore his meniscus. He's had surgery on both knees and missed almost 3 years of basketball. After his injury he came back and averaged 15 points on 35% shooting from the field. I really hope we see a better, more efficient Derrick Rose than we saw that year.
Confidence
Derrick Rose sounds, looks, and acts more confident this time than he did the first return from his ACL injury. Also, he doesn't have to shoulder the scoring load as much because the Bulls brought in great support scoring pieces this offseason. They drafted a pure scorer in Doug Mcdermott who has a high basketball IQ and has a silky smooth jumper. They signed Pau Gasol in free agency; Pau is a guy that can create his own shot in the post, rebound adequately and pass extremely well for a big man. Nikola Mirotic, a big man from over seas has been praised for his shooting ability and size. Another person who can shoot could space the floor for Derrick when he is going to the rim.
Conclusion
All in all, I really am hoping for a successful year for the former MVP. He's got a motor in him that never stops and the fans in Chicago as well as many other places around the world are cheering him on. We want Derrick to succeed. We want Derrick to rise.
